I just installed Linux (dual booting with Windows), and though I didn't have any problems during the actual installation process, I'm having problems during booting..

I start up the computer, it asks me which OS I want to boot from, I choose Linux. A bunch of info scrolls by, and then I get to:
    "starting udev:
initializing hardware ... storage network audioDisabling IRQ #11"

and then it just hangs - I can't get any further than that.

anyone know what the problem might be? I'm using a custom version of Velouria (through my school) on a Dell XPS M140, and installed Linux on a 20 GB partition (with about 9 GB for /home, and a 1 GB swap partition)

The problem doesn't sound familiar. Since it's a school-specific distribution, I would try talking to the help desk at your school first.

I agree. It seems to be kernel issue with your school-specific distro.
Talk to your network admin or tech support at your school.
