My W3j is about to arrive and my first task will be to get gentoo running on it. Has anyone tried to install linux on it yet? If so, what kind of trouble did you run into?

    Thanks,
    Johan

If the W3j is what I ultimately get, I'll be Gentoo'ing it up too, so I'll be interested to hear if you encounter any difficulties getting it up and running.

I wouldn't envisage any major issues getting the W3J working under linux... Asus' ACPI module is in the default kernel, and drivers are available for the Intel 3945 WiFi adaptor and the ATI X1600.

dragonesse: gentoo is up and running. Use the latest beta of MPentoo to install from as the gentoo 2006.0 doens't support either the wless card or the ethernet card.

You'll have to unmask the latest ati driver to get 1280x768 resolution to work with xfree86.

Everything is still working great for me. I doubt you'll run into any major problems.

    Hi,
    -Put "options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1 model=laptop-eapd" to "/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base".
    -Worked for me after reboot.
