Judging by the specs running Linux on it wont be a problem. All the hardware should be properly configured out of the box, perhaps not the webcam.
The above is true provided that you install one of the major distributions
- Ubuntu and its variants ( Linux Mint is the most complete out of the box experience of Ubuntu)
- Fedora
- OpenSUSE -
Ok, thanks!
Other comments, did anyone try to install Linux on the P300? -
It's a high-price, brand new model. Doubtful. Why don't you be the one to try it?
-
Yep, all your answers are just a live cd away

I would wait until ubuntu 8.04 comes out in a couple of weeks.
PCLinuxOS has a 2008 version called minime available on their forums.
Those are two newer versions of distros that generally keep their hardware recognition up to date. -
Well, strictly speaking, it is my research group that buys the laptop and it would be bad if it turns out that it cannot be used for work. I refuse to admit that it is possible to work also under Windows, because after taking the step from Windows to Linux some five or six years ago, going back feels like being locked up in prison with a straitjacket and an extremely annoying companion. I can live with that to experience a few hours of good gaming after a hard day of work, but otherwise, no thank you.
However, if I end up with the P300 I promise to give some information about Linux compatibility. -
A few weeks of delay is no problem, thanks for the information!
-
That would rock.

I got this laptop yesterday and had a little time playing around with it.
I installed kubuntu 8.04 beta alongside vista. Almost everything worked out of the box, wifi, cam, sound, bluetooth, power managment (as far as i could tell). Only hibernation didnt seem to work right off the bat, i have to look more into it today.
Ill write more in-depth about it all later, for now i just wanted to give my first impressions. -
Arch has good hardware detection, most of my hardware worked out of the box, or with a little configuration. My 52 in 1 card reader and the special keys on my keyboard. I'm not using an LG P300 though.

Excellent, thank you very much for the info! If you find out something more please share it with us.
