Do MBPs work well with Linux?

I'm considering purchasing the next generation MBP, which I expect to be revealed next week. My only concern is that it may not be as compatible with Linux as a similarly configured Windows notebook would be.

Does anyone here have experience running Linux on a MBP, and if so, would you recommend it?

I would like to set up a tri or quad-boot system with Mac OS-X, Windows XP/Vista, and Linux.

I'll move this to the Linux forum, scoober :). It'll fit better there.

I know MacBooks work well with Linux. I don't know about MBPs.

i have linus on my macbook, works fine. cant say anything about the MBP tho. you might want to look on forums for your specific type of linux. i know the ubuntu forums have a whole section for apple intel users.

Just use a very "default" distro like Ubuntu that has lots of support. Just make sure you get a big enough hard drive since that space will go away quick.

Thanks Sam, I just thought I'd get more bites over there. :p

My internet connection is really messed up right now, and won't even be looked at by a tech for a few days, so I may not be able to post much until then, let alone do much research. I get like 5 seconds every 5 minutes to load a page and then I lose connection again, it's really frustrating!

Please keep posting, I'll be reading as much as my connection will permit.

    Thanks! :)

I don't see why the MBP would have problems with linux... especially a widely supported distro like Ubuntu. You might run into some problems with the wireless card, but I'm sure many people have figured out how to get it working by now...
As for other distros, I'm not so sure. Considering the MBP has an nVidia chip, it should be able to run linux like a champ.

Thanks for the info everybody. So it looks like it's doable. I'm just testing the waters because any notebook I purchase must be reasonably Linux compatible to be a consideration.

I'm not really that impressed with the currant MBP, and I'm hoping that the new MBP that I expect to be at least previewed if not released next week will be more than a refresh.

Yep, make sure it's linux compatible :D Looks like you need to cable connect at first to the net to get madwifi installed and enabled. Not near the problems I have trying to get Mepis to run on my 4965 card.
