I have a older PC that I am trying install 7.10 on. I did not have any luck with 7.04.
This PC has a P3 550 processor with 448mb ram and a 80gb HDD.
Both 7.10 and 7.04 run ok with the cd.
It has been a while since I tried to install 7.04, but i don't think it would even try to load.
7.10 will get to where you tell it a city in your time zone and it won't go any farther.
I don't know whether the PC is too old and slow to load and run 7.10 or what.
Any ideas? I set this PC up to load and learn more about Linux, but no luck so far. PC is slow but runs XP ok.
Thanks in advance
Herman

I'm guessing you are talking about Ubuntu.
PC should not be too old. I've installed Debian without any problem on a laptop with 500Mhz celeron and 128MB ram. -
If it runs XP okay, Ubuntu 7.10 will certainly not be a problem. Maybe you got a bad burn of the .iso?

try using the alternate cd (text based installer) intead

I installed on a similar config with only 256mb ram. Use the alternate installer and dont use the advanced visual themes. You'll be fine, enjoy.

Try Dream Linux 2.2 http://www.dreamlinux.com.br/english/index.html
It's a nice little distro with all the codecs. It uses XFCE so it will run fairly quickly. It is easy on the eyes also. I have found it a very nice distro for 500ish processers. If you want really fast go with Puppy Linux 3.01 or if you want all the codec and software try Teenpup 2.14. It is Puppy loaded up with lots of software and codecs. http://linux.softpedia.com/progDownload/TeenPup-Download-31563.html
