So will Linux run on the new notebooks coming from Asus, Dell..etc

Probably. Linux runs on many more platforms than Windows does. Will all of the hardware work, though? That's a good question. Depends on what the manufacturer does to support it.
Keep an eye on www.phoronix.com and see if they get something in to review

More platforms than Windows does? You mean to say there are laptops that can run Linux but can't run Windows?
-
I would hope that Intel would continue their trend of actively supporting Linux, especially through mostly open source drivers. I imagine that this is the case now that Intel is teaming up with Ubuntu for embedded devices now.

He means platforms in general, not just computers. You can run Linux on game consoles, phones, computers, servers, PDAs, handheld gaming devices (like PSP), etc. I think I even saw somebody put Linux on a watch one time...
EDIT: It also true in another way, because Windows (at least consumer versions) doesn't run on PowerPC or SPARC the last time I checked, while Linux does. Windows is also not friendly to EFI, while Linux can run on it fine with a correct bootloader. -
Really the only thing that concerns me is the supposed coming DRM'd BIOSES.

Those are already out there and made by Pheonix as I recall. But I wouldn't count on this happening on Dell laptops any time soon, as they're getting ready to start offering Ubuntu on some of their laptops. With other companies, you never know. Even HP seems unwilling to do anything with Linux, seeing as how they use Broadcom chips all the time and refuse to support it on consumer laptops.

I see. I didn't see what bearing that had on whether it would run on the newer laptops though, I guess (it seemed to somehow imply that Linux would run on laptops Windows wouldn't or something).

That DRM'ed BIOS thing was a bit of a premature warning. The user was trying to boot from his USB to Serial converter, which gave him problem. Other users have been able to install and run Linux on the same Linux version.

It shouldn't be a problem with the new processors. What may be an issue is getting good drivers for the NVIDIA GeForce 8M series GPU's which were released today...but I'd imagine they'll be released soon.
