I downloaded the installer when it was released, but haven't gotten a chance to reboot yet. I've got 3 new kernels to try too, just been too busy. It's supposed to fix a number of bugs according to the release notes.

Ha ha. Yes, I seem to remember you had one issue, can't remember what it was. Oh well. Everything works for me on the 4 machines I run it in. Especially now that KDE 4.5.1 is available. The latest updates included a lot of fixes, including some Alsa updates. (Was that what your problem was about?) Also, make sure to upgrade to the 2.6.33.7 kernel.

Tried to install it yesterday on my XPS m1730....no joy. Script failed....option to continue - did that, restarted x and got lo-res mode, no nVidia driver installed. had to back the driver out, and re-use the Ubuntu driver.

    BTW...Ubuntu 10.04.1

So much easier when your distro maintainers package it for you isn't it? Most Ubuntu users will probably get this only with a new Ubuntu release. That is why I love rolling release distros.

j/k...I had a speaker/headphone issue on my Vostro, but haven't tried it on another machine.

I've installed this display driver on my Precision (Pmint Ice) without issue.

    Hello.

I just installed the driver on a DELL XPS M1330 with a 8400M GS nvidia graphics card. OS: Ubuntu 10.04 with latest updates (today).
It works perfectly well, no problems so far. During installation, an 'error' occurs but one has the option to go on. After having chosen to go on, everything is fine. I have no issues with the sound/headphones etc.

The nvidia settings seem to be the same as before, no more tools so far ...

    Cheers.

    Hello again.

Some minutes ago, I installed this driver on my second DELL XPS M1330, my main laptop. Result: No problems so far ...

    Cheers.

My system uptime is 18 days, and it's been a busy week. I still haven't gotten a chance to restart X to try the driver, has anyone had any problems with the actual driver (excluding installation problems)? I may try to force myself to reboot sometime this weekend... :p

The first 260.x beta is out too, has anyone tried THAT? :D

Current NVIDIA Linux graphics driver releases - nV News Forums

It's supposed to add a mess of features like CUDA/VDPAU improvements...

If nobody replies I may be forced to check it out for the sake of science. :p

Hm dunno. LXDE doesn't imply any specific display manager, but if it's LXDM, you have to kill the process, which is called lxdm-binary according to this.

with gnome it was always, sudo gdm stop. I was told on peppermint forums to use: sudo service lxdm stop, but it hangs my system and doesn't return me to the console prompt. idk? Thanks 'groceries, I'll try that...

Maybe you have to mash on ALT+F1 or ALT+F2 to get to the tty with an active login? I have no idea tho. I haven't used peppermint or lxde. I used busybox for a while but not recently.

I used ctl-alt-f1 to get to tty....but sudo killall lxdm-binary hangs the system exactly the same. idk?

I can't find any LXDM documentation, or any relevant bugs on their tracker, sorry dude. Not being able to stop your display manager is kind of crazy.

Yeah it is.....Kendall has already pushed the latest stable driver over for peppermint anyway, so I'll wait a while and see what happens after a fresh install of the respin. I removed Xfce and might have a rogue setting somewhere.
