Is there a list or an easy way to find out if a notebook in Linux (particularly [k]ubuntu) compatible? I went through the stickies but couldn't find anything. I am going to start my 2nd year of Software Engineering and have to learn the environment eventually so I figured the best way to do that was just immerse myself in it completely.

Do you guys and ladies have any recommendations for something in the 13-14" range?

    Thanks a lot.

As wobble987 has pointed out, the Thinkpads are generally linux-compatible, and the previous T61 generation were linux certified.

Most dell laptops, so long as you have an intel wireless card.

I'll second the T61 recommendation. I'm working on one as I speak, and it's great. Newer Thinkpads almost certainly will work as well. If you don't want to do hardcore gaming, the X3100 is a pretty good GPU (and still good enough for Quake 3-era games).
