I have a HP dv6000t (specs in sig) and I wanted to try Ubuntu 7.10 with the live cd. However to get the better graphics features working it downloads a driver and tells me to restart, which clears the memory of course. So I've been trying to set up live cd persistence. The first problem I have is that this is my first time ever using linux, so I know nothing, using the terminal commands off online guides is easy but without the guides I'm lost. Also every guide I have found says to use usb drive, and I don't have one; I do ,however, have SD cards and a built in reader but I've tried using the SD cards with several livecd persistence "how-tos" but with no success. So is there any way to get persistence to work with SD cards? Or am i going to have to go get one.

I have heard both sides so far, some say there are no drivers for SD cards others say there is a way to get them working. I don't have a card reader so I am unable to test it my self, you could try looking into PCLinusOS or LinuxMint both are based on Ubuntu but come with more drivers pre-installed and therefore may support your graphics card better "out-of-the-box" or have support for SD Cards.
I will keep looking around the forums to see if I can see anything else. -
What it's asking you to do is install restricted drivers, which are drivers for wifi and 3d cards etc, might even have your SD card driver in there. You should not expect the LiveCD to work such magic, the LIVECD is a great tool, restore a broken CD, impress your friends at the library, etc.. but at the same time it has its limits.
You COULD make your own Live DVD, there are tools out there, they are much harder to use and it takes a bit of trial and error. I would google it, see what you can find. -
I was able to use the SD card reader, wifi and almost everything else with zero problems; its just getting persistence working with a SD card that I have questions with. As far I could tell the card reader was fully functional, I could access it, format it and create partitions just fine.
