Just got up an Unbuntu 7.10 computer that we'd like to use as a secondary computer and mass media server, but I'm having problems actually seeing the bloody computer on my Vista machine. Any tips? I've shared a folder on the Ubuntu machine (which installed some Windows network sharing stuff) and I can't even see the machine on my network.
Tips and tricks welcome, and thanks in advanced.

have you tried pinging the ubuntu machine from your Vista one?
-
Same here. Ubuntu detects the windows machine but I can't access anything in it (user + psswrd combinason doesn't work) and the printer is not shown either.

I was able to see my Window machine just fine from the Ubuntu machine, and was able to access all the shared folders and contents. I just can't seem to do that the other way around.

Worked fine.
Ping statistics for "Ubuntu Machine":
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 2ms, Maximum = 3ms, Average = 2ms -
how do you ping?
-
cmd> ping "ip of the target".

I can browse my windows machines...didn't do anything special except put in my workgroup name somewhere, don't remember
