Lightweight, small (less than 15" screen, preferably), Linux compatible laptop, with ample hard drive space (dual booting Slackware and Windows), and a decent enough video card to play CounterStrike 1.6, and maybe :Source.

    Budget ~$1200-1500 sound reasonable?

Hmm... possibly HP's dv2000z series. Turion X2 CPU so you can run 64-bit Linux. nVidia chipset and GeForce 6150 GPU, nVidia tends to be very Linux-friendly. 14" widescreen. The first dv2000z's should be delivered within the next week or two, hopefully someone will try Linux on them.
