Mandriva 2010.2 is out The Official Mandriva Blog
How does it compare to PClinuxOS which is based on mandriva? Apart from PClinuxOS being only 32 bit?
I havent used mandriva in 5 years.

I haven't used Mandriva, so I cannot answer your specific question.
I will state that PCLOS is not based on Mandriva in the same sense that Mint is based on Ubuntu. PCLOS is an offshoot of Mandrake/Mandriva, but PCLOS is as likely to borrow good ideas from Debian, for example, as it is Mandriva.

Edit: FYI... Tex is compiling for 64-bit PCLOS. -
I had Mandriva One running as my secondary OS when I switched from Debian Etch to Lenny (beginning of 2009). I can't really compare it to PCLOS since I never actually used that, but I'd say that Mandriva is quite beginner friendly. It has a lot of GUI helpers, runs quite stable and doesn't seem to be too bloated.
The only thing I didn't like were the constant reminders to upgrade to the Powerpack version.
btw: I'm quite surprised that there is a 2010.2 release. I thought all new releases would be under the Mageia label. But I must confess, that I'm far from being up to date concerning the Mandriva/Mageia topic. -
I beleive 2010.2 was an incremental release, 2010.1 with all the updates.
