I am using the integrated sound with my hel 80 in Ubuntu Edgy. I was getting everything I could set up tonight seeing as I finally got my wireless set up and Skype was a big thing I needed working. I could hear the other people in my conference talking just fine but my mic was not recording sound. I tried both the built in and a external mic which I plugged into the microphone port. Its probably some simple setting I have to turn on or off but I couldn't find it. Any suggestions?

PS: why is my wireless so much slower than it is in windows (ipw3945)

I believe that Skype uses OSS, which is the "old school" way of doing sound on Unix systems, and pretty limited. basically what you need to do is set up OSS emulation with ALSA, which is much more flexible. what distro are you using?

Try installing alsa-oss (if what BigV says is the case and it uses OSS).
sudo apt-get install alsa-oss -
will do. But what could be causing my terrible wireless performance? I've heard suggestions of blacklisting IPv6 but don't know what havoc I could unleash doing something like that.

I've heard this suggestion before as well. I don't think it should cause any trouble.
-
yeah... from what I know, IPv6 is used pretty much no where yet... perhaps on internal networks.

Well I got skype working fine but now the keyboard shortcut for volume up and down increases/decrease headphone volume instead of speaker volume. I'll fiddle with it a little more probably some box I have to uncheck or something.
