Any fix for this yet? I have to un-plug, and re-plug my usb connector every time i start ubuntu, after having been on windows.

Have you tried Gsynaptics (deprecated) or GpointingDeviceSettings?

I have the same issue with my Mobile Mouse 4000 w/ bluetrack. Sometimes I just have to live with it, because sometimes mine won't reset with an unplug-replug.

that's cool, but unplugging, and re-plugging the mouse doesn't fix the fact that changing mouse speed in system preferences is ineffective
