Anyone besides myself looking forward to it? I know I can't wait for it to drop as well as Ubuntu Unity. :)

I really liked Mint on my old netbook as it reminded me of Windows Xp.(Not sure why.) What's new on it?

Gnome 3.0 and some UI changes basically just a more refined version of Mint. :)

Do you happen to know the release date or if it will be towards the beginning or end of the month?

    Mint 11 won't use gnome 3.

Are you sure about that? What's to be used instead? On the Mint forums, it's said a few times that it will use Gnome 3 but with a redone UI.

I love Gnome 2 but maybe should start playing with XFCE. Gnome 3 seems to be a nightmare and having just spent the afternoon in a Natty live cd with Unity, this whole movement to make a computer's interface into an Android seriously sucks!

I trust the Mint devs to do the right thing...

That's exactly what i've read because Canonical moved away from Gnome with Unity and Mint is not following Ubuntu Unity. From what i've read Mont 11 will use Gnome 3.

Linux Mint 11 "Katya" to use GNOME 3
Linux Today - Linux Mint 11 "Katya" to use GNOME 3

"Linux Mint Founder and lead developer Clement Lefebvre has announced that the next major release of his Ubuntu-based Linux distribution will feature the GNOME 3.0 desktop environment, which is expected to be finalised on the 6th of April. According to Lefebvre, unlike Canonical's Ubuntu, Linux Mint 11, code named "Katya", will not use Unity, instead opting for GNOME 3 "using a traditional desktop layout" without the GNOME Shell."

Sorry, I meant gnome shell. So basically almost no changes what so ever. Linux Mint 11 will use the existing gnome panel and the like.

Can't wait to see it, although I'll probably not switch from LMDE.

I don't know why but mint on my computer is less responsive than win 7. Do you guys feel the same thing too? I customized the Win-E combination so that it would work like win 7 (that means when you hold down the window key and press E, a window explorer will open), but it is very very laggy. I have to press a couple of time for it to open. Other than that there are so many lag here and there too. I wonder if ubuntu is any faster, or maybe i should try something else, but i really like mint. More importantly, mint 11 will use traditional GUI, thats what i want. Hope the new release will make it a bit more responsive.

It happened to me as well but it depends on the CPU. If your CPU is slightly older and you run the OS in powersaver mode it could drag a bit. What kind of CPU do you have?

I have a T5270 and that's considered a low end CPU. If I run it in powersaver mode I do notice a lag but if I run it in dynamic mode i.e. "normal" the OS feels snappy.

My computer right now is an HP parvilion a6547c, the CPU is AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core 5000. That is not too old right?

No, doesn't sound old to me. You could ask the Linux experts here, I thought I read that certain distros play nicer with certain hardware. I've read complaints with Linux and ATI users. Again, you might want to ask as i'm basically at a noob to non-noob level lol.
