My first go at LXDE and it's surprisingly nice, not as spartan as I thought would be the case. One of the issues i've had with some of the distros i've tried is that my UI is not as snappy as I would like.

That's clearly not the case with LXDE 12. I love the no bloat, add what you want approach. I tried dockey but for some reason, don't know if it's my card or Nvidia drivers but certain features are blanked out in the options menu and I can't drag dockey away from the panel. But that pretty much the worse of it. Also Mint Menu is not compatible with LXDE because of the plugins required.

If someone is looking for a slim down version of Mint, I suggest trying out LXDE. One word of caution, though. There is only aa 32 bit version available. Not sure if they will release the 64 bit version in the future.

I may give this a try since i used to be a mint fan. I've tried lxde in the past and it was amazingly quick, but after a while it became obvious you lose a lot of the customizable stuff. For now I'm pretty much set on xfce, and pairing that with salineOS (debian stable) its rock solid. I have been also using pclinuxos recently too, while not as fast to boot, the kde version is gorgeous.

Thanks for mentioning PCLinux KDE. I wasn't aware they put out a KDE version. I did not like Mint 12 KDE. It had a few issues that were solvable but Mint was designed more to be an out of the Box noob version of Linux. One thing I wasn't impressed with were lockups I was having.

Saline/Xfce is what I would be using if not for SL...great distro!
