Let's hope they didn't design the distro the same way thed did the website...

    http://www.linuxmint.com/screenshots.php
    215.49 KB for a background 8-O

419.68 KB for the grub menu image
396.16 KB for the splash screen
    and so on (220, 250, 270 kB,...)
    ...

all big images loaded in the same page for a nifty 2.5 MB per page.
Once upon a time Linux user (and developers) had an eye for resource wasting...

Sorry you don't have faster connection, I didn't even notice :)

I wish they would include a screenshot of Amarok, I'm curious if they do a decent job of integrating a QT app into a GTK environment.

I have it up and running on my EEE PC. Simply amazing, IMHO. It's my first time using Linux Mint, but man I love it. I'm thinking of putting it in my desktop too. =]

Actually let me just go ahead and do that. BRB guys :p

Hmm, iono what wireless card my EEE has exactly, but then again, LM4 comes with ndiswrapper, including a frontend. So you shouldn't have much trouble getting it to work.

Getting wireless on my EEE was super easy :p

rockharder: It's kind of hard to "summarize". It's more like an experience you get when you use it. Sorry about that :)

John, Thanks for posting the review. I am a bit interested in this I am looking far a good distro for beginers to work with. We have a lot of apps that run in *nix and would like something easy for them to play around with. Ubuntu is nice but it never hurts to look for something better.

First, you download the ISO image. After, you burn the ISO to a CD and insert the CD in your CD/DVD player. It will boot automatically

It's a Live CD so you can boot without installing it to your hard disk...

From the Live CD you can decide to install it to your HDD

The usual way is to install GRUB (bootloader) to your MBR so when your computer boot, you will have the choice to boot Windows or Mint Linux

Do you have 1 or 2 hard disk(s)?

Ext3 is the preferred partition format [so I hear]. Also make sure you have a swap of at least 512MB. [some distros say 256].

    Good Luck!

You should have a swap at least the size of your RAM and, if possible, twice the size of your RAM

If you want to hibernate, you want double your ram. On my Core 2, 2GB machine, I just have a 512MB swap.

It may, it may not. Kinda hard to say, really. Let's just say there's a good chance :D

BTW, I like how Linux Mint 4.0 plays all mah files without any additional codecs. .avis, .mkvs. Even .divx [G-Spot says the video I tested version 5.2; but I hear that DivX 6 sometimes registers as 5.2. Can anyone clarify that? Haven't checked audio files, but since I'm quite sure that mp3s work, and since I only have mp3s, I didn't try]. Woohoo!

I just installed the Mint 4.0 KDE beta on my Thnkpad Z61, and it works great. It actually seems to run cooler than Vista. The dual boot worked flawlessly (just shrink your windows partition with the Vista utility and not a third party one). I can access my Windows partition, etc...

I wanted a KDE distro and tried Kubuntu, but it had problems with my wireless (which is Intel and not Broadcom). Mint picked it right up.

Ubuntu is easy to use, but Mint is even easier to use. You get all the advantages of Ubuntu/Debian, and value added from a team that has added custom improvements

    Anyhow, I heartily recommend it!

WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, got the bugger to work. so happy.

basically..it was giving me "cant find kernel image" wait...i think it was that...anyway..i found that the SYSLINUX file wasn't extracting properly. so it wasn't allowing the computer to boot up the MINT image.....but i fiddled about and extracted from another computer...im installing it as i write...and it looks smooooooooooooooooooth.

guys...thank you so much for your help. you will most likely see me bashing my head over other stuff very soon. what's good to implement onto MINT at the moment?

i use alot of video and image editing programs. ummm..what looks nice too...anything...or any links..just throw at me..

    thanks

p.s im more then honoured to be using Linux.
