My wireless mouse is scrolling like 20 lines at a time and driving me crazy. :D Where can I edit some file in gnome to change my mouse scrolling? KDE there is a dialog, but I can't find anything.

    thanks

I am having the same issue. It scrolls so fast it drives me crazy. I am using a Microsoft mouse and keyboard, so I don't know if I have much chance for a fix or not. I could live with the mouse, I just want to get my printer to work.

Are you talking about Firefox? I've made it better by going to about:config and changing mousewheel.withnokey.sysnumlines to FALSE

EDIT: Put me down for one thing I like better about KDE :D

I'll have to give that a try. I am getting very frustrated not being able to print, no dvd playback and screwed up volume controls and no special effects, that one is the killer.

I use Ubuntu and Mint, each on it's own flash drive. I was first interested in Mint when a friend showed me the 3d destop and rotating it and all the good stuff. But none of that worked for me, so I put Ubuntu on another flash drive with the same results.

My printer is a Canon MP 600. I would be most grateful for any help you can provide. Both distros recognize the printer, but won't print anything, not even the test page.

If you're using Mint, you should already have the medibuntu packages installed, with Ubuntu you need to install some non free stuff. I keep all my notes centralized at www.linuxchronicles.wordpress.com. Look under Ubuntu Multimedia, it's all step by step...also, the first article when you get to the page, look that over. I got tired of saved links breaking, so I've gathered everything I usually refer to in one place, some cut and pasted, others I put together myself.

I'm not sure about your printer...I use a Canon ip2600 and ip4000, both hooked up, and they both work.

Why can't I use any of the desktop effects, is that due to video card driver incompatability? I let Ubuntu and Mint download the driver that is suggested but I still cannot enable desktop effects. I dowloade the Linux driver from the NVIDIA site and followed their instructions but I can't install it.

I have had it for the night. I will try the site you linked to in your last post and see how that works. Still no printer. I don't know if these problems are due to running it from a flash drive or not. I have had no luck at all with anything. I have spent several nights working with these 2 distros and have not made any progress. The printing and lack of special effects is killing it for me. I didn't expect it to be like Windows, but I never would have thought it would be like it is. Again, maybe it's just me, I can't imagine that everyone is spending days to get a printer working or to having the bascis work properly.

I can only download the first 2 of the 10 items on the linuxchronicles site. I get a broken. package or package not found error. I reformatted the flash drive, reinstalled Ubuntu and I still have the same issues, no printer, no special effects, no flash, no dvd etc. I am beginning to think that this is due to running from the flash drive. It just isn't working. I would like to hear if anyone else is successfully running from a flash drive.

Is there a way to slow down the mouse scrolling for other applications besides Firefox? I did what you suggested in Firefox and that helped a lot. I would like to do the same for everything else. It goes so fast it is driving me nuts. Between that and the spinning desktop cube, I may puke before I am done. :D

Hey kingbob....what I do with this wireless MS mouse is just unplug and replug the wireless adapter and it slows it down...dunno why?

It's probably a conspiracy by MS to get you to buy Windows! All of a sudden, I am having a new mouse problem. I have to click everything a few times before it works. Earlier in the day I didn't have this problem. I wonder if this is mostly a Microsoft thing? Maybe a Logitech mouse would work better?

I did the unplug and plug thing with the wireless receiver and it did slow things down a lot. Now the scrolling is too slow in Firefox since I had already changed the setting that you posted earlier. Arrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggggg. All joking aside, I would like to hear how another brand of keyboard and mouse works.

This message posted using LInux Mint via usb drive. :D

Back to the drawing board. Something failed on my Mint install and it's gone. I've re-installed it twice and I can't get it to boot.

Something is very glitchy with this install. The mouse is not smooth at all, and at times there is a lag with the keyboard. I don't know if I am having problems with Firefox too or if it is just the mouse. It takes a few seconds before I can scroll on a web page, when I click, sometimes it takes a few seconds for a response. I have removed and replugged in the mouse and it still isn't right.
