I'm on ubuntu 9.04 x64.
I had an upgrade yesterday, to I think blabla.16 and from the start I noticed a couple of weird things.. It said that the complete upgrade couldn't be done, and that it would do a partial upgrade. I went ahead, and it went well and restarted. Now today it isn't asking for any upgrade (I would think it would need to upgrade the rest of the last kernel update?) and my dock isn't starting with ubuntu. I can start it in applications, but it doesn't have my preferences (default skin and apps on it). I can't go into my awn manager either, it doesn't do anything when clicking on it :/ Should I go back to .15?

mmm..i guess u could go back to .15 and then try upgrading again..
did you try searching the ubuntu forums?
btw-what place are u in your band? singer?guitar?drums? -
What other updates were applied, besides replacing the kernel?
-
I don't know about the upgrades, but even when going to .15, the dock is still the same :/

An upgrade will usually not delete packages. A partial upgrade of the packages normally indicates that packages are being held back, because installing all the new packages would cause some of your currently installed packages to be deleted. This shouldn't happen on a Stable branch. So you either have non-stable or non Ubuntu repositories added, or Ubuntu has a different way of managing their Stable branch.

Using a desktop computer, I used a non-ubuntu repository package, which caused similar behaviour. If you are using an unusual backport or similar to what I had, similar results could be happening.

The dock issue can't have anything to do with a kernel upgrade. They're completely disjunctive parts of the operating system. I would recommend just purging the package from your system and reinstalling it, or using the APT -f option to fix the package.
My dock went crazy after last kernel update..
