Hey all. I'm a complete n00b when it comes to linux. So I thank you in advance for your help with this long project of mine.

So I want to set up a websever of my own. I am currently running a mediawiki off my home computer. And I'd like to run my own proxy and things. I found this which is perfect for my needs and everything but I am scared off by linux. I am about as n00by as they get with linux knowing almost nothing about it. I am asking anyone who knows anything about the OS: StorLink SL3516 to tell me what its like. Just basic things about it. How how I would go about setting up the websever and things. Links to guides on this subject would be greatly appreciated. I know people will suggest building my own to save money. But really I am just trying to gather information about this product before making my decision.

Storlink isn't a linux OS, it's a processor platform type.
Here is a wiki on setting up a LAMP server, their how-to page offers lots of info to get you started or at least to give you an idea of what lies ahead.
It's not about the MvixBOX NAS but a Freecom one, also based on the Storlink Gemini processor platform and firmware based on SnapGear linux.
And here one more link on Storlink based NAS devices.
    Cheers.

This thing runs off firmware. Does that mean this thing will run like a router, where you just log in using a web browser and make simple, cut-and-dry config changes? You shouldn't have to interact with an Operating System, correct?

being a noob i wouldnt advise u head straight to the server side of things. perhaps you should try the desktop first. where it would be easier for your to learn the basics about linux before then moving up to servers. most linux servers have no GUI . because it is expected that server admins are experts who definitely know what their doing.am currently working as a linux administrator even though i never learned anything about it in any school. i learn everything i new running ubuntu desktop on my laptop.
