Hello, I recently goofed up a partition on my Boot HDD and I'm using Photorec to recover my files. Unfortunatley, I cannot find the directory to use to save to my external hard drive. Any advice on that would be appreciated.

Hi there,
i don't know about Photorec (never used it), only thing that comes to my mind - is your external hdd mounted and what filesystem does it use?
(hope my Q aren't too embarassing - dunno about your linux skils) -
It was NTFS before I screwed up the partition, the external HDD is FAT32. I am actually using photorec from the Ubuntu Rescue Remix. I know for sure the the external HDD in mounted because I can choose it in the disk selection step.

Yeh it's like asking where your car keys are...
Maybe you can try and go through just the preliminary steps again and maybe you will remember... or maybe there is a default location?
There's always the find command -
I used PhotoRec from the PartedMagic LiveCD recently. You will still need to mount the USB drive (even if photorec recognized it in the disk selection step) before you can point to it as the destination using /mnt.
After you recover your files, you may find PhotoRec Sorter to be of use.
