For my desktop, I need to install the beta x-fi sound driver, ndiswrapper, & the wmp54gs driver. All three have been downloaded and are now on the hard drive. Now that they are there, how do I install them? I know nothing on the matter, so please be as detailed as possible.

1- Have you looked at the Restricted drivers manager to see if something is available there?

2- What kind of files have you downloaded? (.deb, .tar.gz, etc.)

    X-FiDrv_Linux_US-1.04.tar.gz, wusb11_v28_dr.zip, & ndiswrapper-1.51.tar.gz.

The first is for my X-Fi, the second for my wireless card, & that final to run the driver for the wireless card.

I am unable to get a wired connection to my desktop unless I want to unplug everything and set it all up again in another room.

So how do I install these files?

Usually you extract the files, open a terminal window, navigate to the directory, then do a 'make' and 'make install' (for uncompiled versions). There should be a README in there, which should contain install instructions.
