    Heya,

Can I get some recommendations for good multiplayer games for netbooks? I would usually check ubuntuforums, but they are way too bloated for me right now.

Also, is there a good way to solve the flash slowness? I heard the best way is to use a greasemonkey script to replace adobe flash with the software player... is that it?

thanks :) I just came back to ubuntu 9.10 from windows 7, lol...

I believe that Mechanarium, a great little indie adventure game will work on a Netbook. It comes with a Linux binary if you buy it direct from the dev. Torchlight is also netbook compliant and I hear it WINEs well. Wesnoth is one of the coolest strategy RPGs available, and it runs on netbooks easily because of the simple graphics

As far as Flash slowness, I'll leave someone who's more versed in this on ubuntu to answer.

    1. Go into software center and download the "netrek" client. It's old-school and there is a steep learning curve, but I think it is a very fun multiplayer game. It demands a lot of skill and teamwork both offensively and defensively.

    2. I have not tried to route flash video into VLC or whatever. That is an interesting idea though. My laptop runs flash just fine. On my netbook (Asus 900a) I run xubuntu 9.10. However, I've installed lxde desktop as well. So, if I know I am going to be watching flash video for a long time, i will log into an lxde session. Every little bit of ram and cpu that is freed up helps! I found gnome to heavy on both. A simpler alternative is to just run a distro like crunchbang.

Oh, and also I am hearing that the next version of Flash will support gpu acceleration. I guess that HTML5 is finally scaring Adobe into improving Flash. It's about time, geez. I guess we can look for it next year.
