Nice article. It seems that the biggest difference between the two operating systems is that maintaining your system is mostly up to you while you get more support from Microsoft/Apple since you're paying a good buck for their OS and most things there tend to be automated. Things don't come as easy on linux, but there is a potential to have a great linux install :)

Here's a statement I'm sure is not true and adds to misperceptions about linux which I believe ranks up there with linux does not crash:

Virus writers go where the users are, so I'm sure we'll see more Linux viruses with the increase in open-source software available out there. Here's our trusty Wikipedia on the subject: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Linux_computer_viruses. I suppose linux users are generally smarter users, so they probably see less infections simply because they don't run the executables that come in e-mail or install sketchy programs on their computers.

I guess the aura around linux is if your computer is having problems, it is your fault while the aura on Windows is if your computer is having problems, it is Microsoft's fault. Maybe that is true :)

We'll see mac virus before linux virus because the majority of mac users are not tech savyy and thus don't take security as seriously than an advanced windows or linux users.

Same here, Mac users are sometimes less tech savvy.
