This is great, but it's just an initial step. It's offloading 100% of the rendering to the NVIDIA card. Also, the Intel must use the modesetting driver--that is, the xf86-video-modesetting driver.

One cool thing is that external displays will now work on Optimus systems where the ports are connected to the NVIDIA card. Previously, this could only be done with hacks like hybrid-screenclone.

    It was about time ...

A year and a half on Windows just to be able to play games, that run smoothly on Wine ... I hope I'll be able to go back to Linux soon ...

Yet another thing Nvidia can do that AMD seems incapable. Enduro doesn't work on Linux does it? Cause I can tell you, it sure doesn't work right on Windows...

    For Ubuntu/Debian at least.
    Code:
    sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa
    sudo apt-get update
    sudo apt-get install nvidia-319 nvidia-settings-319

The problem with AMD is they left it up to the manufacturers of the computers to implement it, unlike Nvidia who did everything in house.

Lets hope with in the next driver release or two there will be full support for Optimus, then i could finally put linux on my W520...

Will this solution work on a Sony Vaio S with switchable graphics?

Very True, it was a very poor decision on there part to not keep everything in house, creates way to much inconsistency.
