I recently installed ubuntu 8.04, and somehow my C drive (VistaOS) got courrupted. Thta being said, i was able to recover some data and then reformatted my HDD and reinstalled vista. I vowed never again to place linux on the same drive as vista.
I'm gonnna be getting an external HDD, perhaps 500gig. Suggest how to partition my new drives. Mind you i want to use some of it as storage, but not too much. I'm willing to allocate upto 120gigs for the linux install. Is that too much or too little? How much of that should be swap?
I have an asus F3Sv-B1. 2 gigs of ram on a T7500 with an 8600m GS.

How did Vista get corrupted? did the boot loader or partitioning wreck vista?

1/3 for os 2/3 for data

Many of us to a / for the OS install, and a /home for our settings, pics, sounds, etc. The way to go IMO. I would do 30% for the OS, and 70% for the /home after the 2 gig swap. IMHO.
New external HDD. Suggested Partitioning.
