You shouldn't need to install any drivers expect for the graphics driver. That should be easy in Ubuntu or Fedora. I use Ubuntu myself, but Fedora is a decent distro as well. If you have any questions or you run into any problems don't hesitate to ask!

EDIT: I would recommend starting with the Ubuntu LiveCD so you can see what it's like without installing anything!

I'm guess you already have some version of Windows installed. The installer told you that you couldn't shrink it?

If you want a great Linux LiveCD partition editor, I would recommend trying http://www.partedmagic.com/

It is free, of course, and you should be able to resize your partition quite easily. Just be careful to have any important data backed up and do not shut off the PC in the middle of a resize!

Hmmmm. Have you already got you system running with another operating system and you are sure your hard disk is connected properly?

If so. I would suggest trying the partition editor in the Ubuntu LiveCD environment. It should be located at the top in 'System' -> 'Administration' -> 'Partition Editor' or something like that. See what you can do with that.

Please, please, please make your questions more concise. Your comments give me a headache, and I can't help people when I need panadol myself.

Yes. Do try and be a little more clear. Please neatly layout what you've tried and the outcome of each attempt. It can be very difficult to isolate the problem when not immediately in front of the system.

Ok, I have vista, and shrunk my drive with it. PartedMagic also works on my system. Have you compacted your drive prior to a shrink? Are you using Vista?
