    Hey guys,

Stumbled upon this for US based lenovo purchases. The more traffic the more success so hopefully you'll be able to justify that new laptop purchase now that there is no Windows tax!!!

Too bad that they don't actually take that seriously. If they would they'd offer all of their models without Windows.
Has anyone actually tried to order a laptop from Lenovo without Windows? Dell had a similar offer one and a half year ago when I bought my M6500 but is was a hard fight to actually get it.

    btw:
Don't accept the usual way of buying a computer bundled with Windows and declining the license after reading it. Instead find someone who sells you the machine you'd like to have without Windows in the first place. If you can't find that someone don't buy the machine at all (there might be alternatives).
    Why?
    1st: You'll save a lot of trouble [1].
2nd: Buying a computer with Windows and returning the software is ridiculous. You know in advance that you don't want Windows. Don't play their game and hide behind the excuse that you didn't know the EULA in advance. You did! And they know you did.
3rd: That EULA loophole might have been a good start to circumvent the support for an OS or a company you don't like but it's not enough. On one hand you still depend on that company's generosity (they can change the EULA whenever they want) and on the other hand the computer vendors always find new excuses to keep on bundling OS and hardware although it is forbidden in many countries. Again: Don't play their game! Play your own one. If they don't like your game don't play with them at all!

There are custom laptop makers - especially who build on Clevo or other barebones who provide the option of buying a laptop without an OS. You save close to $80 - $100 bucks usually on that.

Yeah, I can't buy a single laptop within permier page with ubuntu or redhat. I have models listed but says based on 'region'. Apparently i'm not in the right region.

I am not sure why but when I tried 'custom and buy', it is not showing the sales price and after matching the same configuration with a standard X220(with Windows), it seems to be more expensive.

    EDIT:
for the same configuration, Dell V131 is selling 500CDN which has Windows and Office Starter Version and finger printer reader, backlight keyboard with 65WAh and 320GB HD. So it sounds to be quite over price unless the x220 is that much better than Dell Vostro

Yeah, so the regular laptops are in a 10% discount phase... to get equitable pricing you have to find an online coupon for 10%.

Talk to a rep too... they can get you down even further. After 4 tries I got the config I wanted at the price I wanted. Just took some work.
