I just finished installing fedora core 7 on my LG S1, but abysmally neither the sounds are being played nor am I able to select 1280x800 screen resolution. Also I am not able to turn the beryl etc effects from the settings. It says it couldn't do it because of some lousy error. Anything to mitigate the situation?

My video card is ATI Radeon X1600 256 MB.

Telling us the "lousy error" could help us a lot. But judging from my experience with Fedora, you've gotten pretty much what is supposed to happen so far. You're going to have to download your video and sound drivers and then install them yourself.

You have not installed video drivers, have you?

First install the livna repository in your Fedora 7: http://rpm.livna.org/livna-release-7.rpm and then install yumex:
    Code:
    su
    yum install yumex
when it is installed you will have a GUI to install software, you can either select it in the System Tools menu, or type yumex as root.
From there you are looking for the fglrx package, install it along with its dependencies and that should allow you to fix the graphics.
Perhaps you have to check within yumex is the repository livna-testing is enabled (in case you don't find fglrx).

I suggest you to visit www.fedoraforum.org and search in the threads. There are plenty dealing with troubleshooting drivers.

    Joe.

Actually I would've mentioned the nature of the "lousy" error if the message ever mentioned it. Hence "lousy"! Thanks for the help. :)

Actually, I just discovered that the version of xorg they use in Fedora doesn't play nice with the ATI Drivers... kind of sucks but I still have to blame ATI on this one.

I ended up doing this though:

Haven't had a change to set up XGL, but it works for getting the proper drivers installed.
