Here is the problem. I was just installing VLC. Went fine. Then I tried installing all skins. Put them in the correct folder. Good. Now, if I right click on the top of the player I get a menu and in it I can pick, among other things, preferences and skins. Skins work. Preferences doesn't open the preferences window. Anger.

Not only that, but now the notification that VLC is running (the orange cone) doesn't appear, as you can see. In addition, the VLC window botton does not appear on the panel.

However, if I open something else like, terminal, firefox, etc., then it appears.

Finally, in the Workspace selector on the panel, everytime I open VLC a small square appears on the top-left corner which I can't get to.

    Ideas?

How did you install VLC? What distro are you using? Why aren't you just using mplayer? ;)

I just did apt-get vlc. The regular way. I'm on 9.04. Anyway, I tried purge and deleting the vlc from usr/share/ and reinstalled. Same problem.

I wanted to give it a shot but somehow I always end up with problems with vlc. Whatever, I'm gonna purge it to hell.

    Edit: SOB is gone.
