This is the Official NBR Team Linux thread. Joining this team helps to get the word about open-source, free-software to the masses. There are obvious (and some not so obvious) reasons to support FOSS (free open source software) and I encourage all to join.
There are no requirements to join. Please use our official NBR Linux Team signature banner freely and widely. The banner will look like this

what's the plan, then? there seems to be a core bunch of us that help out the n00bs. do you just mean a forum status thing akin to "reviewer" or something?
if you mean "real-life" advocacy, it might be better to join a local LUG -
@BigV - No, we aren't talking real life here
The team would mean that we would have a signature logo (we would have to work on making one) that says something about linux and/or support free software. We'd have to think of one.
That is, is I get enough replies. Otherwise, this thread goes bye bye. -
Do we get a theme song?
-
-
Hmm...I am thinking about toying with Linux in the future. I use it all the time at school, I just don't have it on my home computers......now I will know where to come for help. You need to make a little thing for your sigs that says NBR Linux Team (check out my NBR OC Team one in my sig!).
-
Hey I wanna be on this team! It's like we're the NBR Justice League... haha.
I'm still a semi-noob with Linux... but I've learned a lot in the past couple of weeks -
And, if someone is doing up a userbar or something, I'll slap it on! -
Sweet.... you know I'm all over this. The question now is, who's up for designing the logo?
-
-
Zoomastigophora Notebook Evangelist
I'm in for this although I'm still somewhat new to linux (gentoo is a beast to figure out).
-
Good work there, notebook_ftw. We have at least five people now, so we are pretty much up and running. I will make an alternate sig-pic for those that want one that's less wide. But Tux the Penguin is what we are going for, for sure.
-
I'm also at work, but I've got some 3D graphics experience as well as 2D. If someone wants to come up with a theme, or sketch out an idea, I can probably whip something up tonight or Wednesday.
-
-
There's an NBR logo? You mean the little half-open computer thing with the power icon on it?
-
^^^Yeah, that one. Not so much concerned with that as the fact that it says NotebookReview.com... I think that's the more important part. But hey, you're designing it, it's whatever you feel like.
-
That's the point
I'm not designing it. I'll make it, but someone else needs to come up with a rough sketch or idea of what we want. Just tux and the NBR computer? No text? Drop caps? Anything?

"In 1991, a crack hacker team was sent to the trash by an oppressive market for a crime they didn't commit, preaching freedom. These men and women promptly escaped from a maximum security firewall to the Internet underground. Today, still wanted by the tyrannic corporation, they survive as coders of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can ask... The Linux-Team."
Hehehe, -
-
Here's what I whipped out in 30 seconds. It probably needs more work, considering I can't brush my teeth in under a minute...

Hey, Pita, if you're still interested in doing this, I think it would be great if you used Gautam's picture and expanded upon it with a nice background or something. I still think incorporating something about the NBR logo would be cool, but that's me.
-
I'd like in on this too. FREE SOFTWARE AND OS'S FOREVER!!

It's called an image map, and I don't think it's possible in BBCode. You can make the image itself a hyperlink to somewhere though. And I'll kill you if you put a flash object in your sig
I don't think it's possible, but it's the principle of the thing.
-
I never even thought of image maps, since it requires xHTML. -
I'm no expert, but Linux has been my primary operating system since about June 2005, so I know a decent bit about it. I wouldn't mind getting involved.
I only joined here recently, but I'm here to stay. =)

I'd be interested in joining if it's still possible...I've been using Linux for a couple of years on and off, but continuously since early 2006, and I'm pretty good with it.
-
Well, this thread keeps getting bumped up and dropped again. I'm going to need to break down and make this logo for us. I'll try to work on it tomorrow, but after work I have to work on a Formula car. Hopefully I'll get something done some time this week or weekend.
-
Sorry. I just don't know how to make something everyone is going to like.
-
Yay, team!!!!
I just started with Linux (Ubuntu), but so far, so good! -
i'm in too! only been using ubuntu for about 5 months but Quickly learning =)
-
Well, my week has filled up more quickly than I anticipated. I was at work until 8:00 last night, so I'll try to get something done this weekend. I'll post it up as soon as I get something etched out.
-
OK people, our very own Matt was kind enough to make us a team sig. Let's go ahead and use this!

Grats on the signature and kudo's on the awesome initiative guys. Wish I wasn't so many years out of linux or I'd join up again. Maybe someday after I get more time to invest and re-learn all this stuff
-
Thanks, macker. Mximus, you too join up by getting the new signature image!

Sign me up please! I've been using Linux for about 5 years (since I started at Uni) and continue to use it today as my main OS.

All you have to do to be a member is frequent the Linux forum (either as a user or a helper) and put the banner in your sig.
