Hi,
I just got a acer travelight notebook to load linux mint on. I will probably grab an extra bunch of ram for it...i think it has 256 now, not sure. however, I want to know how do I get a bootable disk of the latest mint software?
im new to linux and finally got a machine capable of running it....i doubt my ole 350 p2 will cut it...ha ha

go t their website, download the iso image, burn it to cd using a cd writing program, enable cd booting in ur bios and then restart computer with the mint CD in it.

Still, put as much ram in it as you can in case you want to run a virtual machine for example

Really? I get 380 used on Gutsy. Mint 4.0 is based on Gutsy. The minimum for Gutsy is also stated as 384 -
I get around 200-300, he could be using another desktop enviroment, or is lucky

Linux software isn't like Windows .exe's. You can park stand-alone Linux-based software packages on CD's but the whole project is more complex than you'd think. By far the simplest thing to do, unless broadband is not possible anywhere near you, is to just go to the Mint repos and start picking stuff off the shelf.
Use Synaptic Package Manager or Add/Remove utility to get whatever you think is missing. -
Ok....cool.
I will be maxing out ram at 2 gigs. I would say the wife will inheret this notebook as a windows home machine. so its just to get my feet wet for a while with linux...I may want to dual boot my home system....but just try a nice fresh install on the notebook....
thanks everyone.
Ok, got a acer to run Mint on, now what?
