I believe Ubuntu is debian based so select the 64 bit deb? Did the main page on openoffice.org not identify yours correctly?

OpenOffice.org is installed with Ubuntu. Why would you need to download it separately? Linux isn't Windows... you don't have to download all your software separately.

Linux actually doesnt include anything but the kernel, includes less then windows in fact. I used the core linux iso to give doing everything from scratch a try. A distro is an entirley different story. Just as is a computer manufacturers restore disc is, can contain alot of software.

Probably wants the latest 3.1.....? Most likley avaliable through the distros updater though.

Nice article I like how u actually have it in your sig. I would figure him smart enough to know but the outright statement i felt needed a little correction. No offense to anyone hell i thought i might get slapped with a temp ban for it.

I typically dont use linux and my favorite distro is suse to be honest. I have downloaded the core linux iso and built from scratch sucessfully. I tried todo a gentoo build, you know compiling and boot strapping myself and well i did something wrong, twice. Took too long to compile on a Pentium 4 2.6 so i gave up.

I think the average person would think the statement "Linux isn't Windows... you don't have to download all your software separately." to be very true after trying almost any distro.
