I have tried everything to install the damn thing.
Firstly it tells me openoffice core is corrupted so i think ok
Ill do a complete removal and try to reinstall
yet ive tried this and it doesnt fix it
Ive looked at the help on google and its still not helping
is there anyway to reinstall the core or re download it because its not working out for some reason
ive tried sudo apt-get install openoffice.org but that also showed up as corrupted
any ideas?

I don't understand, what distro are you using? Looks like Ubuntu, but Ubuntu comes with O
preinstalled.
-
mine didnt
dont ask me why
but it didnt =X
only got abiword -
That's weird, I have no idea. You can try ubuntu forums. Maybe they can help you fix it.
-
xfce comes w/abiword i know you installed it. hmmm are u in gnome?
-
You need to make sure you got the multiverse and restricted repositories enabled in Synaptic and update them as well either using synaptic or sudo apt-get update.
Also have you tried grabbing the .deb file from OO's official site and installing it like that? -
-
I think you have Xubuntu, that's the only distro that comes with AbiWord. Do what bc135 said to fix it.
-
No i have ubuntu trust me im not retarded
but i did install XFCE for fun
and yes like i said i searched google and have TRIED the apt-get -f and NO it didnt work
always tells me openoffice core is broken whether i remove it completely remove it or uninstall it
and i downloaded the installed from the OOo website but it wont install says i dont have the proper access blah installing stuff on linux is a pain when your new -
open terminal
type in "cd ~/Desktop/" and hit enter, then type "sudo sh ./ooo" and hit enter type your password and your good to go
the reason why you get that access thing is oo installs files in your root partition and linux is making sure no one else but you can do such a thing -
Well tried that even named the folder ooo
isnt working still when i open the installer it still gives me an error =/
The installer is a .jar file btw -
If you don't mind, perhaps you should consider reinstalling OO using a DEB package:
sudo apt-get remove --purge packagename
The command above removes OpenOffice, while deleting any user settings. The DEB installer can be found here:

I've tried that
I googled the issue and none of the uninstall functions i found worked ill try again but i doubt it will do anything -

Have you tried downloading directly from openoffice.org ?
-
^^ As posted, he said he has.
Could the OP please give us details on these installation errors? I think we can get around these issues if we know the nature of these errors. -
theres the error
and i downloaded it from their site but do not understand how to install a .jar file in the terminal... -
OK, when you try to install via the command line, APT probably goes to its cache and tries to reinstall the same bad package. The following command will get rid of it:
sudo rm /var/cache/apt/archives/ packagename.deb
Note the extension. I always mess up my commands b/c I have the Windows mentality.
Purge OO to make your system clean as can be:
sudo apt-get remove --purge packagename
Update your repos:
sudo apt-get update
Now try again:
sudo apt-get install packagename
-
Ah thanks that finally worked =]
finally got rid of that damn file haha its redownloading right now
Thank you for the patience! -

Bog, will doing a simple "apt-get update" not be enough ? Does one have to manually delete the cache file in such instances ?
-
trust me you have to delete the cache or this thread wouldnt even be here
-
Therefore, the "apt-get update" doesn't do anything to the cache.
I am glad to hear that OO is working for you, LostDestiny.
