I have two laptops sitting at work, both Win 7, I plan to nuke off. Both are former displays for excellent prices. The models:

Asus X401u and Dell i15n-1900bk (Pentium Version).

Thoughts on both? What would give me the least trouble out of the box and play nice with a wide assortment of Distrobutions?

Normally, I wouldn't bother they really are a great price.

The dell i15n should work perfectly out of the box with any recent distro.

But the ASUS is a nicer machine IMHO. :D

Why not try some live USB images and see what needs fiddling...

Yeah. That's what I'm thinking. The Asus is even cheaper than the Dell. Minor cosmetic damage on both. But I really wanted to avoid fits and hiccups that's why I was leaning towards the Dell. I only have cash for one crazy project.

I'm just concerned about Linux compatibility on the Asus.

Yeah that review pretty much slams it. I guess you'll need to spend some hands-on time with each.

After lunch I'll climb down and pull out the rest. I noticed a exterior beaten: Vizio ct14-a0. The thin and light ultrabook running W7 for $250. A Thinkpad 410s, W7, for around the $300 mark. Both are a tad more than I want to spend given the condition.
