The Notebook Review forums were hosted by TechTarget, who shut down them down on January 31, 2022. This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Using Automatix is a good way to hose your system. There are better and safer ways to install non-free on a system.

    Yep....outdated recommendation for Ubuntu (my read on it originally)...NOT recommended...Canonical does not recommend using it.....

    You walk into a #ubuntu or ubuntuforums.org and let it slip that you used automatix1/2 you'll be SOL.

    I guess that's why I've never heard of the program before..... :D Thanks for the Caveats guys. I regret even mentioning that program now, but I guess someone will learn to stay away from it so maybe this thread will serve a purpose.

    Yeah, one of the problems with Automatix is that it interferes with package management; back when I used it on Edgy, it actually broke APT completely. It took me 4 hours to find the problem and fix it. Automatix is an example of horrible coding and design.
