did anyone ever manage to overclock an Nvidia laptop graphic card on Linux?

I read that the proprietary Nvidia driver allows overclocking only on desktop cards - using the "coolbits" setting of the driver itself.

in fact with my Nvidia NVS 140M (laptop card) coolbits only allows me to downclock... : -(
it's a shame cause in Windows it can overclock up to 50% very stable and without much heat.

there is also an opensource program called nvclock, but it also failed with my card...

I see that you bumped this thread so I would like to ask you...Why do you want to overclock the video on a lappy?
(Especially the 140M). I have found that tweaking laptop video cards is more trouble than it is worth unless you have a high end gaming machine and even then you introduce instability.

    *free bump*

I remember having to set coolbits to 1 in xorg.conf to enable an extra menu in nvidia-settings in order to overclock. Look it up. Which distro are you running?
