It will NOT be using the Icewm window manager despite the name. I have no idea what different in this release, but they say Peppermint users will be 'super pleased'. So I'm looking forward to installing it. FWIW FYI YMMV![]()

Zoid is Peppermint tailored more towards net and netbook users? That's what I read when I went to the site.
-
It's a cloud-based OS. It links to things like Google Docs and Hulu online instead of having productivity or media software installed locally.
-
Rodknee...it's Mint 9 with LXDE and few tweaks and cloud/prism apps....you can run on anything you like...
the "ICE" release on Monday is going to be interesting...all I know is that Icewm is NOT window manager despite the name (good!) -

Cool, I look forward to trying that out. I've really enjoyed Peppermint's snappy performance and have been considering loading it on my netbook.
-
If only it wasn't terribly ugly.
-

just got peppermint going on my computer myself... gonna have to try that out
sailor..i agree with you about its performance..pretty fast..sleek -
I think for Ice they've used some ultra light window manager...but I'm just guessing....
-
You *can* make it look however you want, but to be honest, it just looks ugly, not well integrated, half-arsed, not professional. I know there was hard work put into it(I've spoken to Kendall, one of the devs on IRC), but frankly, I don't like it all that much. and to be honest, it looks like LXDE with a new menu icon and(crappy) wallpaper.
Lubuntu looks nice, though.

I guess we'll see what they are trying to do with this ICE release on Monday....it +might+ be LXDE, but that wouldn't make sense, to me anyway....
I just now checked out Mint LXDE (by Kendall also I guess)...it too looks nice but underneath I haven't searched for what's different if anything. LXDE has become my preferred Desktop. -
-
Also, you expect that from Fedora. It's Fedora, I mean really, whatcha expect, for it to look nice? -
For ICE, it's LXDE but they've trimmed down the distro somewhere...very fast. Installing now. -

Ice looks great IMO
and is very fast. It's cloud oriented and that's great for me because I like to set up my own packages. I think it's great for anything from an older pc, to netbook to modern desktop/laptop. YMMV, but I doubt it...
EDIT: Ice really is fast as all get-out. If I put it on my Precision, it would probably be so fast I couldn't see anything......LOL gonna have to try it..... -
here's one take on it.... Peppermint Ice is like Chrome OS without sacrificing local apps
and the official press release: http://peppermintos.com/2010/07/peppermint-ice-faster-lighter-aiming-for-the-clouds/
yeah yeah I'm shilling for them.....lol -

Give peppermint time. From a designers perspective, The Graphical side of things will come along as they have really great base colors and logo to build upon.
-
As for the colors, they need work. I'd personally transition to a dark pink/mild red color with graphite darker graphite with touches of white. But that's just me
The logo....the idea is nice, but the colors and overall feel of it screams "unprofessional", even if it looks nice. -
