I am running Debian Lenny x64 with Gnome. I am having an issue with the gnome volume applet(running version 2.22.3). My sound works perfectly and the applet works as well but it does not save state and upon reboot of the machine loses the settings I made with it. For example my sounds starts out all muted(PCM, Master etc). I go in and change it to unmute and the volume I want. Then I reboot and its back to the way it was, all muted. Has anyone else run into this problem? Is there a settings file that needs to be created/modified to allow the settings to be saved? Thanks.

Assuming that your user is in group audio by default (not sure w/ Debian) or has been added,
Perhaps try running "alsactl store" after setting mixer levels with alsamixer.
