I want to add the highlighted 97.66 GB partition to dev/sda5 (8.49 GB now). I have the entire system backed up now to an external drive. Thanks for any ideas short of a fresh install of Ubuntu
I do have a live usb drive with U 14.04.1

Yes, gparted live on an ubuntu installer will do just fine.
Grow the extended partition with gparted, then grow the 8.49GiB partition. -
AWESOME, thanks so much guys! Only hitch was I did not know to turn swap off before resizing the extended. Boot was fine afterward also.
Good to see you back AllufGroceries
+ 1 to all
It is nice to have gparted on the live Ubuntu environment. Off TopicI used unetbootin (latest version) but I see 2 options to try 14.04.1 W/O ininstall -

Sorry - forgot about the swap keeping the partition active. To turn off swap, first find the partition/swapfile(s):
Code:cat /proc/swap
Code:sudo swapoff /path/to/swapfile

Thanks Gpated let me do it from the program but good to know an alternate way. Since I have 16 GB ram I set swapiness to 10 in the /etc/sysctl.conf. Is this a good idea?

I don't know - depends on how you use your system.
Many flamewars have been waged over swapiness.
I'd recommend running htop and just keep an eye on it throughout a regular day. See how much swap gets used and take it from there.
Re size existing Ubuntu partition (Win 7 / Ubuntu 14.01.1 dual boot system)
