If you're just looking for a free version of Windows, then you won't be happy with Linux. If you have to ask yourself the question "What's so good about Linux, i have Windows and i love it." then you most likely will not like Linux. If you're thinking "Hmmm, I'm satisfied with Windows but i want to give this Linux thing a try" then you can try a Linux distro LiveCD of your choice to check it out. Try reading some distro reviews here.
