Hey guys, I'm trying to figure out what a good capture card solution would be for recording video from game consoles on to my laptop. Requirements are:
What would you guys suggest?
- Must be USB
- Must be lag-free (no delays between button presses and what I see on the screen)
- Must have composite input, and preferably S-video as well
- It would be an enormous plus if it worked in Linux, hence my posting in this forum

Adaptec Game Bridge $15 - lag free, cheap, works great, small. Has composite & svideo
Its just as good as any of the other usb capture devices that cost up to like $80
Remember usb is limited to SD resolutions, as far as I know there is no HD capture device for USB format.
HAVA - $150 has tons of inputs and outputs via network, this device actually allows for HD capture, it does a lot more than that though, you can stream the video to any computer on your network and even watch it remotly via the internet. I good HTPC tool. -
Thanks for the quick reply. I had looked at the Gamebridge too. Thus far I haven't been able to determine whether it will work under Linux? (I know I said that was only preferable, but it would be really really nice.) SD resolutions are fine for my uses BTW.

I suppose it may depend on the linux distro? Its just kinda a plug & play device in windows, the tricky part is not the hardware but the software as it comes with its own software to actually capture the video, however I have used about 3 different video editing programs to record instead that support capture devices (TV cards and things) and the all worked.
So I think there is a good chance the hardware will function fine but the included software is cheap and probably wont work so you may have to find your own Linux capture software. -
Specifically, I'll probably be using it on Ubuntu Intrepid (though I may be giving the Jaunty alpha's a try here pretty soon). Think it will work on that?

BTW, where can I pick one up for $15?
