Have you tested it with any other OS (preferably not Linux based)?

I dual boot with arch Linux and windows 7. Windows is working fine.

Tried booting Ubuntu from USB key and suspend and wake work well.

That's weird. Are you using any Testing packages? Are you running Bumblebee? What's the state of the NV driver?

Hey guys, I'm seriously thinking of buying this notebook, but I want to make sure I can keep it at low temperatures. Has anyone tried using Linux-PHC to undervolt this laptop? I don't want to flash a custom BIOS as that would void my warranty. Speaking if warranty, can I at least open up the back, check the components and replace the HDD with an SSD? I'll be buying it from Xotic

Not tried phc yet but it's on my list of things to do. have managed to solve the wake from sleep problem. Don't quite know what fixed it but installing bumblebee and the nvidia driver seems to have done the trick.
Also if you're using Intel 7260 WiFi then it is a bit more stable with the latest firmware from kernel.org.

    Hey guys,

I have a small problem related to this laptop. My slackware system went south about 2 days ago and I tried to reinstall Debian on top by 1) shredding the hard drive and 2) reinstalling Debian. However, I think this has buggered up the UEFI boot partition. When I try to boot from a USB, I receive a PXE-E61 error message (check cable) along with a Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected Boot device and press a key error. Does anyone know how I might go about restoring the UEFI boot partition? For the record, my manufacturer is Metabox. Thanks.

Whatever is on your hard drive has nothing to do with USB boot. You might have a broken boot USB or BIOS UEFI setting is wrong.

This command will show you which driver you are using:
    Code:
    glxinfo | grep -C1 renderer

    Yes, it's Intel.

You need Bumlubee optirun/primusrun to enable the NV card.

Yes and that's what you usually want unless your playing games. To load up the Nvidia properties you first have to activate the Nvidia card. Open up a terminal and type "primesrun glxgears" That should load up the gears benchmark. You should then be able to load up the Nvidia utilities panels. This should all work out of the box in Manjaro. From this point on any program you want to use your Nvidia card, type primesrun before it. When I run Final Fantasy a realm Reborn, I type primesrun wine path of the game. In Steam you go to the properties of the game and set launch options.

Now some games I have found wont like primesrun and will pop an error. If that happens use optirun instead.

    Thanks

I'm going to buy this laptop, but I'm stuck between the i5-4200M and the i7-4700MQ. I'm going to be using it for light gaming and programming/engineering for the next 4/5 years. I'm seriously concerned about heat as I like my laptop to run cool. I've heard that the i7-4800MQ can get up to 90C undervolted by -80mw, and since XTU isn't on Linux, I can see it getting up to 100C. That's not acceptable to me, but do those numbers also apply to the i7-4700MQ?

    Just get a i7 Quad. It's fine.

XTU settings are not OS-dependent, so if you dual-boot with Windows you can still use XTU.

Unless all your engineering apps are GPU-bounded (in which case you shouldn't get a Kepler in the first place) or single-threaded (in which case you should spend more time writing code instead of worrying about your hardware), getting an i5 Duo when i7 Quads are available doesn't sound like a wise idea. Seriously, this is a gaming notebook. If Clevo says i7 Quads can work in this machine, they can.

My 4700 UV can stay at 3.3G 4-core with CPU temp around 80C. (Ambient temperature 15C)

Well I don't personally plan on dual booting the computer. I guess I could undervolt it with a Win7 copy then overwrite it before I use a key... I'd prefer not to though. Does the Prema BIOS support undervolt inside of the BIOS itself?
