    I've searched and googled - I promise.
I've just ordered a sager np8760 and saw on xoticpc's forum some problems with linux drivers....
I don't know if they are unfamiliar with linux or not most users seem to be MS users.
I just need to know if anyone has this notebook and is there any "deal breaking" problems? I don't care which distro you run just tell me someone has linux on this box and it's going fine ;) If one distro can do it then I can do it :D

Typically, problems with Linux drivers stem from the wireless card, and GPU. What ones did you get for your laptop?

While I don't have the Sager NP8760 model, I do have the identical ODM model of this laptop, the Clevo W870CU, and I've had Linux running on it, since I originally received it last December.

    Linux
    ====
    • Distribution: Gentoo (Funtoo) x86_64, (64 bit), testing branch, (~amd64)
    • Linux Kernel: First installed - 2.6.31-r1; Current installed - 2.6.33
    • Desktop Environment: First installed KDE 4.2; Current installed - 4.4.1

    Hardware
    ======
    • Clevo W870CU Notebook Computer
    • Intel i7 Mobile 920XM Extreme CPU
    • 8GB RAM (2 - 4GB modules)
    • 17.3" Full HD LCD
    • nVidia 280M 1GB GPU
    • Matashiita BD-CMB UJ130AS Blu-Ray Drive
    • Intel 5300N Wireless LAN
    • Processor - Model recognized correctly and CPU scaling works correctly
    • Screen - Works
    • Keyboard - Only tested bluetooth, (Fn-F12), function key combination, which works correctly with BIOS update (see bluetooth below)
    • 3 LED Hot Keys - Mail and Browser don't do anything under Linux. I haven't definitively tested the Silent mode key to see if it does anything under Linux
    • Touchpad - Works with in kernel Sentelic drivers
    • HDD - Both SATA HDD, and SATA SSDs work correctly
    • RAID - Didn't test but Clevo D900F Linux software RAID worked, (did not test dmraid), so I would assume that W870CU Linux software RAID would work as well
    • Optical Drive - BD drive works with in kernel drivers
    • Graphics - nVidia 280M works with the nVidia linux driver. Only tested with the nVidia driver
    • HDMI Port - Works with the nVidia linux driver. Only tested for video output to desktop monitor
    • Sound - Works with in kernel alsa drivers. Auto configuration works. Speakers and Headphone jack work correctly
    • Ethernet - Realtek 8168 works with in kernel drivers
    • Wireless - Intel 5300 works with in kernel drivers
    • USB - Work with in kernel drivers
    • Card Reader - Works with in kernel drivers. Tested SDHC card only
    • Webcam - Bison cam works with in kernel drivers. Only tested with Kopete to see it the webcam works
    • Bluetooth - Works with in kernel drivers after upgrading to 1.00.10 BIOS. See this thread for more details
    • DVI Port - Didn't test
    • Microphone - Didn't test
    • Microphone In, Line In, S/PDIF Out - Didn't test
    • Infrared Port - Didn't test
    • Fingerprint Reader - Didn't test
    • Modem - Didn't test
    • Firewire - Didn't test
    • e-SATA - Didn't test
    • ExpressCard Slot - Didn't test
    • TV Tuner - Don't have to test
    • 3.75G HSPA/UMTS Modem - Don't have to test
Lastly, I don't think that there's any laptop, old or new, that won't work under Linux. The worst that can happen nowadays, is for a Linux user to be forced to tweak their installation to support some component, like when having to compile a specific driver from source, or patch the kernel. Every now and then, supporting something under Linux can require manufacturer help, like some BIOS ACPI issues, or this W870CU bluetooth issue. In those cases we report them to the manufacturer and then hope for a future fix, but it seems like those instances are getting addressed in a timely manner.

    Good Luck..

Thanks guys I ordered the Clevo D900F - It's basically a desktop shoved into a big fat laptop lol. I couldn't find anything that would not be supported.
On the Clevo W870CU the guy on their forum was having trouble with his sound and touchpad - graphics are nvidia so there will be no problem there - just install the big blob ;)
