    anyone has any suggestions on how to improve the screen brightness on the ASUS M50Sv-A1 i am using ubuntu hardy heron and the nvidia drivers are installed , i can change the brightness and contrast using the nvidia control panel but the screen is so dim to begin with that it looks horrible, the brightness function key does not work under ubuntu any suggestions will be appreciated thanks

    I may be wrong, but a screen only goes so bright, aside from the OS. Wait for more replies, because i dont know to much about Linux.

    Well I know the M50 has that light sensor on it that will automatically adjust brightness according to the light around you and disabling it provided better results for some people. However I have no idea if this is tied to the OS or not and being in Ubuntu that could be a problem.

    I have a 8600m Gt and Ubuntu automatically dim when idling, I used the brightness key to set it to max... I think you problem as something to do with the aforementioned light sensor.
