I'll post mine just as soon as I boot Ubuntu.
Edit: Could some moderator change the title, please? Thething didn't work.

My laptop's Gentoo install doesn't have a GUI yet, so I can't take a screenshot, but I'm working on it
-
Here's mine for the moment:
-
Nice desktop ZaZ.
This has been my desktop for last two years:

timberwolf: Awesome desktop!

Thanks. I see you take the minimalist approach.
-
Wow, that's pretty tricked out.
I like it. The icons in the top panel look a little cluttered, but I really like the background; tropical/beach wallpapers are usually a major faux pas in my book, but this one is classy.
Wow. I guess I had no idea how much theming is available in Linux.
-
Sexy, ain't it! LOL
I'm lucky the system works; haven't worried to much about changing the desktop. After seeing some of those posted here, though, may have to try something more original, if not better.
srunni: very sharp desktop. And I've tried Gentoo. I couldn't get that distro up and running to save my soul! I tried with the 2007 Live CD version, which, the last time I looked had been deleted from the options because it had so many problems. Not that it mattered in my own case. I had it and a 2006 version. Both were way too much for my meager intellect. LOL -
Just changing the background to something like mine really adds something.
-
Well I must admit I'm a bit of a resolution junky. I suppose I could have created an Apple like dock, but I really like to have as much resolution as I can for surfing. Putting them up there seemed the best solution. When I'm using it, it seems normal.

VERY sweet-looking, but that's a pretty small screen resolution?

Here's my Gentoo desktop..

Very nice, jas. I like all of your icons.

This is my old desktop... but I'm currently working on getting Ubuntu to work with my new laptop (that has bcm4312 wireless).

Simply awesome. You win, hands down.

Evidently I need to get on the ball with my Linux theming!

I'll add mine to the mix...

Heres mine.

Wow, that's low-res. Are you using one of those ASUS Eee PC's or something? (I noticed ASUS in your sig
)
-
Nah its a VM on my Dell.
EDIT: Just got it up to 1024x720, much better.
I have to scroll though, so I gonna go back. -
Pretty good. What media player is that?
@Thomas
Looks nice and simple, but a change of wallpaper could make it look even better.
-
Here is mine, ignore the screenshot app that didn't go fast enough
-
Very nice. I like your dock....wallpaper is sweet too. You should have chosen a delay on the screenshot.
-
Here's mine atm, it's the right half of my screen, left half is web browsers/video full screen

Alright, you asked for it:

Ok, so I have to ask. What is it that enables all the special effects on that cube?
-
Are you referring to the cube on my screen shot? Well, it is compiz-fusion of course. I have very few modifications made from the stock PCLinuxOS 2008 MiniMe desktop. What effect in particular are you referring to?
-
I too am using compiz-fusion, but how did you get the transparency? The coral reef underneath? I mean, all I can get it do do is switch between four desktops like a cube, no transparency, no background.
-
Install CCSM (Compiz Config Settings Manager). Also, I like to have the compiz-fusion-icon always available on the status bar to be able to quickly switch between compiz and kwin window manager. You can also launch the CCSM from the icon.
-
I have it installed.
-
haven't had much time to mess around with compiz-fusion in ubuntu. just finished getting the ipod classic working in gutsy and started messing with other stuff. guess it's time to pimp out the effects and start screencasting.
-
If you go into the settings of Compiz Fusion, (the CompizConfig Settings Manager, or CCSM), you can set the transparency of the cube under the Desktop Cube settings. Select Desktop Cube, and then select the Transparent Cube tab that lets you set opacity during rotation, and opacity when not rotating, and other options related to cube transparency.
It's also under the CCSM Desktop Cube settings, under the Appearance tab. The last entry there is the Skydome option, which lets you display an image that is shown when you are rotating your cube. You can play around with that and also with Cube Caps which is the image shown on the top and bottom of the cube as you rotate.
The final part of that config is to install and enable the Atlantis plugin for the Cube, which gives you the fish. You can read about these options here.
Good Luck.. -
Jas,
You beat me to it. Thanks for the detail answer. Sorry I didn't get to it before.
-
Hey, you've got updates to install
-
dmacfour, that's pretty sharp IMO
-
I'm still working on it, but right now it's the minimalist thing:

But Thomas, where is Flock?
Take a look at my screen snapshot....

What, you don't have intel integrated graphics? Compiz isnt the pig that Aero is.
Unless of course, you were being sarcastic? -
Clean and simple. Too bad I hate Kde...
-
I wasn't being sarcastic, and I didn't say anything about pigs. When I tried to install compiz, I got a message saying something about my graphics "solution" (I'm paraphrasing because I don't remember the exact message or the wording), doesn't support 3D.
I was joking about buying all that other stuff - my Linux machine is a $400 beauty from eMachines and not worth the time or effort to install those things, let alone actual money. -
This isnt mine but previousy when I had arch (installing it again soon) my setup was based on this one by purposeofreason at archforums
