    God loves Arch Linux.

I'd install it, if my two laptops had friendlier hardware. Macs suck.

Looks nice! So did you check for Compiz in the package manager, and install it?

    Hmmm. That's pretty minimalist! :p

I like way the minimized window looks.

    Nice....

Wow. That's pretty intense.

    Now that's what I call WICKED SICK! :D :D :D

I looked, and noticed that it was already installed. I also noticed that some effects are working, but others aren't. I downloaded a seperate manager and made tried to get things working to no avail.

Hmm. Well, I know some of the core Compiz files are installed, but are you sure the manager is installed?

    Did you get this thing?

window manager is openbox, everything is stated in the terminal window open.

openbox is good, but its a bit too lightweight. you dont have extensive features like gnome hence Im going to go for a gnome + openbox combo which means desktop look will remain the same but will also be lightweight as openbox and have extensive features of gnome.

here is a new one using gnome (info about theme is in terminal window)

I'm sad like that. Functional, useable, simple and easy. The taskbar at the top will not become covered by desktop windows, though the one at the bottom will - but becomes visible by hitting the bottom of the screen with the pointer.

Will have to try something a bit different when I receive my 17" WUXGA, as it'll have spare space at the sides of the screen more than the top and bottom. Hmm... :)

compiz- fusion requires a card that is capable of direct rendering, aero probably does not whereas aero glass does. so whether or not which one is a pig doesn't really matter. the intel card should be able to handle basic compositing but you won't get the really nice effects that the plugins offer. the aero compositor is junk compared to the compositor for linux. however, compiz and beryl have been around longer than vista.

yeah, compiz-fusion will not work with 2d and requires 3d capable cards (direct rendering). however, since you have a desktop and not a laptop, you could easily get a card for $50 or less that'll support compiz-fusion. i'd stick with nvidia.

Pixelot....when I installed 8.04, it the wireless stuff wasn't in yet. I ran my long cable from my router to the laptop, and it said there were a million updates :), downloaded them, installed, and wireless came right on up. If you have the card I have in sig, you'll need to do this.

yeah most people use that fancy stuff these days, they don't work the way I like to have things work (mainly no keybindings) so I use older stuff which works much better for me, plus they're not gaudy and don't waste resources.

and sometimes I come up with themes that go really well: triton The window border I have right now (titanium) lets me change the colours of it, I set it to some colour on the background. I didn't bother to make a GTK theme which matches. I've got a lot of other window managers/etc. in that folder if you want to look around.

Also, check www.gimp-tutorials.com, and somewhere there there's a tutorial on reflections. Some sweet font with a reflection would be t3h 1337.

ofcourse not! its taboo in linux world lol

on another note microsoft made a mistake calling their os windows ...as soo many linux users use that as jokes

microsoft gives you windows, linux gives you the whole house....

    endless more

they should have just left windows out and called their OS's, 98,2000,ME,XP,VISTA sounds much better as no one really says MICROSOFT VISTA..they just say VISTA

dont correct me on grammer/structure lol...im also a grammer freak when i have to be....but right now typing with one hand (other broken) so yea
