Haha, I got that line from someone else too, although I needed to tweak the numbers a bit wrong (it was grabbing 'MHz' instead of the actual number :p).

Yet Another COnky Modification. YaCoM. Yes.

It turns out I don't need a lot of things, so I decided to just remove a lot of things. That panel was an eyesore anyway.

The DE is GNOME, and the GTK theme is nodoka-silver, same as before. That's conky on top and pypanel on the bottom. The window decorator is emerald with a heavily modified theme based on the truglass engine. It exists nowhere else but my desktop.

I could maybe find a way to put it up if you want it.

This will do for now. I'm gonna strip it down more to the essentials soon. I just got ubuntu installed this weekend. I also have openSUSE, which I'm using KDE with. I'm gonna mess with that a bit and then post the results. I've been trying to post a second screenshot, but my internet is retarded

(NEVER USE HUGHESNET! IF YOU HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE, DON'T USE THE INTERNET! READ BOOKS OR SOMETHING)

(Yes, those are all street fighter characters. That may be the "theme" I go for with KDE)

I keep trying to like KDE, but I can't

opensuse: KDE3 is working great, but the network manager app won't work. I need net to add some stuff, but can't unless I log in with my gnome session. KDE4 locked up my computer various times for no reason.

Ubuntu: I briefly used it, but switched back to gnome, because I was just gonna try KDE on opensuse. One of the packages didn't uninstall right and I had to play around to remove it.

I'd like to play around with KDE, but so far it's just been a pain in my butt. I think I'm gonna do a reformat soon. I always have hopping fever. ;)

I love this thing. The thing I love most, the 9800 GTS has been easier to deal with than the 9600 GT. For whatever reason the drivers work better. I have had 0 problems making sleep work. I'm pretty amazed.

For the longest time, even back in the late 90's when I first tried linux, I was ALWAYS a gnome guy. But, during the last year I sort of fell into KDE, maybe after acclimating to it, and just can't do gnome anymore as it bores me for some reason. Gnome is stable and looks great though :D

That's why I stick with gnome. I like some of the extra features of KDE, but

    A. I honestly hate the default KDE look.
    B. It always gives me problems.

Since I'm now using Vista for compatibility (and gained a bit of time), I've decided to strip down and just return to good old Openbox.

very cool wallpaper Archer...were'd dig that one up? I'm having problems getting MEPIS 8 on my DELL Precision in Sig....X get's borked when the Nvidia driver is installed....I can only get into X using the VESA driver. It's this Quadro. So, I may be going Mint 6 Gnome x64 on this machine.

I know...default look sux...but, you can really make it look gorgeous...although forcing the fonts to 96 dpi with full sub hinting and anti aliasing, etc etc....takes some tweaking, but really fast when you get used to it.

I should seriously give KDE 4 a shot. I've installed it several times, but it's hard to get over the newness of its configuration. I loved KDE 3.5x so much....

I'm confused about kde4's window decorator/theme thing. The default WM is kwin, yes? So why does kde-look have window themes using "dekorator"?

    Is that something like "Emerald"?

Are there default kwin window themes?

Is doing a compiz standalone just like doing a -box stand alone? I've been thinking of the idea too..

It's very similar. My standalone compiz worked very similar to my openbox, actually. ccsm allows for fully configurable hotkeys. There's a plethora of utility plugins, plus you get all the eyecandy. Yet somehow I still prefer my openbox.

As advice to a fellow archer,
    Code:
    # yaourt -Sy compiz-manager
    Then just modify .xinitrc:
    Code:
    ...
    exec compiz-manager

Similar but you have some extra steps,. their's a how to on the arch forums
That's a bit incomplete, I think he should look at the arch forum's way.
And personally, I use fusion-icon, not only to start compiz but to switch between compiz and openbox.
