I have got OpenSuse 11 installed on my Dell Inspiron 1520 and had downloaded and installed the latest drivers for the NVidia 8600GT card. Ever since I have installed the drivers my system has been very slow and only just works when the desktop effects are at minimal. I have got 4GB RAM and a core 2 Duo 2.0GHz processor and the system monitor shows very little usage of both. Can anyone suggest the best driver for this card and some place where I can download it from?
    Thanks
    Ishan

Can you tell us exactly what version of the nVidia driver you have? It should be available on the nvidia-settings "X Server Information" section.

I had major performance issues with the previous driver, but the new 180.22 driver fixed them.

I just installed 180.22 and the results are very good. Google nvidia drivers and go from there. Post back if you have any problems with XServer running or anything :).

I have the same version, 180.22 and am having problems when desktop effects are turned on to anything above minimal. Its usually when I click on windows to minimize/maximize them or when I start a new application or when I am just moving the mouse about. The problematic thing is that there is no sluggishness even with the desktop effects at ultimate level in my university labs but the systems there have much lower specs than my machine.
