    Sony Vaio model PCG5J2L VGN-CR220E
I must part ways with Vista.
Looks like they have XP locked out.
So, I'd like to install Linux or a variant thereof.

I don't need the bells and whistles. I need a mouse, screen, network connection and that's about it. Wireless and Modem would be extras.

Any one every seen or heard of a successful conversion of anything:

    • Sony Vaio?
      Sony PCG5J2L family?
      Sony model VGN-CR220E?
      Sony Viao?

    Partial specs:
    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T7250 2GHz FSB: 800MHz
    L2 Cache: 2MB
    Memory Speed: 667MHz
Mobile Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator X3100Video RAM: 358MB Chipset: Mobile Intel® GM965 Express Chipset
    Intel® PRO/Wireless 4965AGN
RealTek Semiconductor RTL8136/8101 Family Fast Ethernet NIC

ANY guidance, recommendations, hints, words of hope would be appreciated.
    Thank you.

Just install. It will work perfectly fine.
For distributions look at Ubuntu, Fedora and maybe others, whatever you like.
And don't worry, Microsoft has no influence on Linux, so there won't be artificial limitations like on Windows XP. :)
